Everything lined up on the first try.-1 star for a wheel that fit tightly and was reluctant to spin at first. The saw itself weighs 254 lbs and while it's theoretically possible to lift the saw onto the base, it's far easier to get everything lined up, secure the bolts, and then turn the saw over onto the wheels (it's shipped upside down).Yes, it costs about 15 bucks more than a 'universal' base, but it's product-specific and required no adjustment to get the saw to fit. But after some minor 'field modification', it's fine now. If you plan on moving the 746X around your woodshop, this is what you're looking for. As others have suggested, if you're buying the saw now, spend a bit more, buy the base and install it before the saw leaves the shipping box.
As a result, if you have to move the saw around and your floor is less than level (whose isn't), you will have SOME degree of twisting of the extension table relative to the main table.2) When you do move the saw with the extension table, ONLY the saw is supported. I wish I could add another 5 * review as I'm a fan of DeWalt tools, but I have a problem with this base. So you have a 52" MDF table and it's hardware being supported by it's attachment points along one narrow edge of the extension table.As a result, I may look into selling mine and buying an HTC design which supports both the table and the saw. The table is not. The base is "supposed" to work with the 52" table saw base, but compromises have to be made.1) No matter how you adjust the legs, you must shim the legs on the 52" table. There is not enough play in the adjustments to do otherwise.
The lift pedal mechanism works very smoothly. What I like about this product:1. Overall observations:This is a very high quality product that you really will need and use all of the time if you buy it. Tight turns and small debris on the floor do not seem to pose a problem for this base.What I don't like:1. This thing is STOUT. If I had to order this thing separately, I probably would have tried to make something less expensive work for me. Otherwise it is a real bear for two people to set the saw on the base while trying to line-up the bolts that attach legs to base. I don't know if DeWalt tweaked it to fix the problem or I just got lucky.3.
Although my DW746 is a heavy beast, I am sure the base would handle much more weight than I am throwing on it with this saw.2. At the time I bought my DW746 table saw Amazon was offering this base as an added bonus (for the same price). Actually mine was included in a package deal, so I have no complaints. However, if I had to go buy the thing I would be chafing at the price. Once you have depressed the foot pedal, this thing smoothly and easily rolls the saw wherever you want it.
I appreciate the fact that this base allows you to bolt the legs of the saw right to it - giving the saw cabinet even more stiffness and strength.4. Assemble the base and attach it to the saw legs BEFORE you turn the saw right side up. I cannot say that you will be happy with the price tag, but once you make the investment you will never regret owning this accessory. The saw is shipped upside down in the crate. Another reviewer describes this base as having a tendency to 'drop' the saw when you are lowering the foot pedal. A PIECE OF ADVICE:If you buy this at the same time as you buy the DW746 saw remember this. I am so glad that I have this base instead.
The price. Mine however does NOT seem to do this yet. The construction of this base is very heavy duty. I noticed the same thing on the demo model I looked at in a Woodcraft store.

HAT'S OFF TO DEWALT. A GREAT THOUGHT OUT DESIGN.
ANOTHER NICE FEATURE IS THIS BASE BOLT'S TO THE SAW MAKING IT EVEN MORE STABLE. A FINE BASE FOR MY 760 TABLE SAW.

With the universal base if you didnt apply pressure to the mobile base when moving the saw, there was a good chance the saw would slip off one of the rails. Had to wait 2 weeks but it finally arrived. No chance of it coming off the base as it is solidly bolted down. Got my neighbor to help me lift the saw off the old base and on to the new one.
The Dewalt mobile base was out of stock, everywhere, when I bought my DW746. With the Dewalt base this can't happen, takes one hand on the saw to move it around and place it just where ya need it. In the down position it has a lower profile and is LEVEL. In my small basement shop I need all the large machines to be mobile, so even though I know better I bought a "universal base" and the fight was on.
The saw is now easy, I do mean easy, to manuever and is solid as a rock once its set down in its operating position. This is a great addition to my saw and I only regret waiting so long to get it. After a couple of months of trying to make it work, I decided that enough was enough and ordered the Dewalt base. Assembly was so easy I was sure I had missed something, spent another 20 minutes double checking everything.
